90's Themed Birthday Party

It was my birthday in January but because I was on school placement every day I didn't have time to have a party with my friends, as well as seeing my family. So I had a belated party at the start of February (I'm sorry this post is late!)

It was a 90's themed fancy dress party so I told people that they could either come as a character from the 90's or just wear general 90's fashions. I even got some retro party snacks! Like those animal biscuits that come in the purple packet, cheese balls and those little savory snack sets that have the mini pretzels and fish crackers in them. I had a 90's playlist with all the classics on too!

I was a teenage mutant ninja turtle (Michelangelo - the orange one). I loved that programme when I was younger and he was always my favourite! I decided to make my own costume rather than buying an expensive one and I was pretty pleased with the result considering I'm not that great at sewing and I had to do it all my hand (I would love to have a sewing machine!).

Tights - Amazon

Glittery socks - Topshop /Cut-out boots - ebay

Method:
I based the costume on top of a pumpkin costume I already had and covered this in dark green material. Then I sewed on the yellow material for the tummy and stitched the pattern onto it using wool. For the shell on the back I stuffed the rim of a circular piece of material with scraps and sewed it up (like a pizza crust). Then I sewed that onto my back and stitched the pattern onto it in wool. My bandanna is just made out of a cut up orange vest.

I was really pleased with the whole night. I got to spend time with my flatmates who I'd hardly seen while I'd been on placement and two of my best friends form home came too which I loved! I was pleased that most people got into the spirit of fancy dress too!

Tom wore a 90's Middlesbrough footy top that he's had since he was a kid and somehow still fits him?

The only problem now is I don't know what to do for my 21st to beat this year's party!

Halloween costume post #2

Hi! This is my costume that I wore on actual halloween. I went to a friend's birthday party (how cool would it be to be born on halloween?) and then for a night out.
This time I was Agnes from despicable me! I was really excited to do this costume, and again I didn't have to buy anything new for it!
Do you not think I look exactly like her? haha! :)
Scrunchie - had since I was little
Yellow top - pubcrawl top turned inside out (it has writing on it normally)
Dungarees - Rebel Rebel
Converse - Office
Unicorns - borrowed from a friend

It was such a fun night and I kept singing the 'unicorns I love them song'.

The best part was I met Jake and Lemongrab while I was out!

The last picture of me and Jake is so funny, I look so possessive of him! haha :')

Thanks for reading! Please comment what you think of my costumes :) x

Halloween costume post #1

On Monday I went to town with my friends, to a halloween themed night. I don't usually like to do a 'scary' fancy dress so I went as a mermaid. I'm really proud of myself because I already had all the parts of this costume expect the skirt, so I hardly spent any money :)

Bralet - topshop sale - £3
Shell necklace - H&M sale - £2
Scale print shorts - *Alicia Zenobia - etsy shop* - approx £40
Green net - eBay - approx £2
Starfish hairclip - market stall - 30p

I already had a pair of cute orange starfish hair clips, which I got from a market in Turkey. They work out at about 30p each!

This bralet was the closest thing I had to a shell bra, but I also didn't want to wear a top that was really skimpy. I got this shell necklace in the H&M sale, just last month which was really lucky! When I first decided to be a mermaid I hadn't even realised that I had so many accessories that I could wear with my outfit :)

These shorts are amazing! I know they're expensive but I think they're definitely worth it for being so unusual, it was because I'd bought these shorts in the summer that I wanted to dress up as a mermaid. I wanted to make a skirt/tail sort of thing because I felt a bit too exposed if I just wore the shorts on their own. I bought the green net material off ebay and it was really cheap. There were lots of different options to choose from too. I decided to make a skirt that was open at the front rather than a full tutu.
It was really easy to do:
All I need was a long piece of ribbon (or cord, etc.) a needle and thread. I lay out the material and folded the top end over a couple of inches, the ribbon lies under this fold. Then I sewed the fold down. You now have a waistband with a ribbon running through it. To make it fit my waist I ruched the material up along the ribbon until I was satisfied with how it looked. Then I simply tied the skirt around my waist (similar to a sarong).

I hope everyone enjoyed their halloween! I'll be doing another post to show my costume from Thursday night soon! :) x

Fancy Dress: 'Anything but clothes'

Hi, on Monday it was my house warming party at uni. It was fancy dress and the theme was sci-fi or 'anything but clothes'. I'm not that into sci-fi and the ideas I did have were going to cost quite a lot, so I decided to go for the cheap but fun 'anything but clothes' option.

If anyone watches Adventure Time you may notice that I took some inspiration from LSP.
This outfit was perf ad so so easy, here you go

YES! IT'S A PLASTIC BAG!
Obvi I still wore clothes underneath because it would have been rather see through, and it was inevitable that it would get torn off at some point during the night. I belted it in to add that stylish edge ;)
Rest of the outfit:
Batman dress - Amazon
Satchel - Beyond retro
Vans - eBay

Who thinks I was looking fresh to death in my new dress and purse?
Sadly I didn't make it home in my bag dress, it was lost at some point during the night, perhaps it went something like this?...

Luckily the night ended perfectly with a chicken box and cuddles with Tom :)
